Newspaper print is notoriously prone to wrinkling (Photo 1) and ages very rapidly due to the low quality paper used. Over time the paper also becomes very brittle and will fall apart when handled. This example shows a page from the Houston Post which a client brought in for restoration for sentimental reasons rather than for any historical significance and dates from 1939. During the process the paper becomes very wet during mounting and de-acidification (Photo 2) but finally after drying (Photos 3 & 4) the newspaper is ready for framing. We undertake this kind of work for around...

SWEET ROSIE O’GRADY, 1943. These very rare special posters were specially designed to promote the movie musical and are quite different from the theater release of the poster. Instead one of these posters feature music hall star Madelaine Marlowe (Betty Grable) posing to promote Flugelmans’s Beer in a beer garden where she worked as a singer the outset of her movie. The second poster promoting wire bustles shows Madelaine appearing as a burlesque queen. For more information on these poster check out our recent additions or the Musical category. Fortunately the original colors were still vivid and the value of the poster warranted the extra time it took for a complete restoration. It now hangs in a media room in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil!

JOIN THE TANKS, 1914-1918. This is an original recruitment poster measuring 41′ x 27″ and dating from World War One and is in remarkable condition for its age. The artist; August Hutaf (1874-1942) could have lived a generation later as his artistic style on this poster is more reminiscent of 50′s era Sci Fi than the sombre, dark images from WWI that are more commonly seen. The poster issued by the United States Tank Corp is a popular image featuring Chrurchill Tanks amid a blaze of fire and a snarling cat leaping into the viewers field of vision. Topped off with a tagline...
