CHARLIE CHAN IN HONOLULU, 1938. Original Half Sheet (22” x 28” / 72 x 92 cm) folded movie poster starring Sidney Toler, Phyllis Brooks, Sen Yung and Eddie Collins. Directed by H. Bruce Humberstone and produced by John Stone. Sidney Toler was well received in his debut appearance as Lieutenant Charlie Chan. This was also Sen Yung’s debut as Chan’s #2 son, Jimmy. Fans of the Charlie Chan series quickly accepted the new actors, and the rest is movie history. In this film, Chan eagerly awaits the arrival of his first grandchild, while, unbeknownst to him, his #2 and #5 son impersonate him in order to investigate a murder on a freighter in the harbor. Chan soon becomes wise to their plan, and swoops in to solve the case.
This poster is in fair to good C7 condition with very bright colors, although the fold lines are still visible with substantial wear and fold line separation. Tears with missing paper on the center right, and top-left center of the poster and there is margin discoloration. Linen Backing is available for this poster for an additional $60. This will include complete restoration of this poster including a wash and color restoration.
