MARIHUANA, 1935. Original (26 x 34”), (66x 86cm) originally rolled and now linen backed movie poster starring Harley Wood and Paul Ellis, directed by Dwain Esper and written by his wife, Hildagarde Stadie. This film tells the unfortunate story of a party girl who finds herself entangled in a web of drugs, alcohol, crime, and death. This poster is considered to be anti-cannabis propaganda, joining the effort to criminalize marijuana federally.
The combination of a thicker paper and prolonged rolled storage caused the poster graphic to be stressed and worn, particularly along the darker areas. A significant amount of retouching has since been done and the poster is now linen backed and in excellent condition!
