Directed by Irving Pichel and based on a WW2 story by John Steinbeck this movie relates the social dilemmas of a war hero who leaves home and his girlfriend from a poor impoverished and undervalued community. The military honor and medal awarded to him following death in action are presented to his humble father amid the stark reality of his community and love torn girlfriend.
