CLEAR THE WAY, ~1917. Original World War 1 poster (20″ x 30″) designed by Howard Chandler Christy (1873 – 1952) to encourage the general public to buy bonds for the fourth libery loan campaign.This poster like so many others by Christy invokes an overwhelming sense of patriotism with the American flag draped over a figure of Columbia next to soldiers aiming a naval gun. Christy is perhaps the most collectible of the US poster artists.
This poster is in fine C8 condition and has been mounted on linen together with two mini stickers that were originally attached to the poster. These stickers declare “THINK! Have you bought your limit – 4th Liberty Loan”. Sold for $450.
