CLEAR THE WAY, ~1917. Original World War 1 poster (20″ x 30″ / 51 x 76cms) designed by Howard Chandler Christy (1873 – 1952) to encourage the general public to buy bonds for the fourth Liberty Loan campaign. This poster like so many others by Christy invokes an overwhelming sense of patriotism with the American flag draped over a figure of Columbia next to soldiers aiming a naval gun. Christy is perhaps the most celebrated and collectible of the WW1 American poster artists.
This rolled poster was in very good C8 condition prior to linen backing. two small horizontal tears near the base of the poster were healed during linen backing. Another fine example of this much loved poster.
