CURLY TOP, 1935. Original One Sheet (27 x 41”), (89 x 125 cm) originally folded and now linen backed movie poster starring Shirley Temple, John Boles and Rochelle Hudson. Directed by Irving Cummings. A 1935 musical about a young orphan, Elizabeth who is adopted by a young and wealthy bachelor and falls in love with her older sister, Mary. True to form, the two profess their love to each other and end up living happily ever after. The film’s notable number is “Animal Crackers in My Soup”.

Linen Backing a poster on canvas requires three essential elements; Linen which is marketed as Cotton Duck:, acid free Japanese Lining paper and a Wheat starch solution containing an alkali buffer which when used together provide a stable acid free environment for mounting a poster.

Linen backing is first and foremost a preservation and stabilization technique. It preserves the integrity of old and valuable paper and assures the poster can be safely handled and displayed.
