Directed by Oscar nominated Martin Ritt finds Newman as a troubled young man drowning in alcoholism following the accidental death of his brother in an automobile accident. Set in rural Texas on a cattle ranch Newman is wild and at odds with his patriarchal and highly principled father. “The man with a barbed wire soul”.
