ORIGINAL WW1 UNCLE SAM I WANT YOU FOR THE U. S. ARMY by Montgomery Flagg

I WANT YOU FOR THE U.S. ARMY, 1917. Original vintage WW1 (30 x 40″, 98 x 131cms) recruitment poster for sale.  This ubiquitous design has been replicated, reused and repurposed many times since it’s creation in 1917 by James Montgomery Flagg. Flagg was a prolific artist and illustrated for magazines of the period such as Saturday Evening Post, Colliers and Judge but he best remembered for this poster which was actually inspired by a similar poster used in England depicting Lord Kitchener requesting Britons to Join the Army. This particular poster was used at Tremont Row which was a short street near, Scollay Square in Boston Massachusetts. A red stamp appears near the base – other posters we have dealt with have had a street address of 22 on Tremont Row.
