20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA, 1954. This Original British Quad (Quod) (30″ x 40″) movie cinema poster for the 1963 theatrical re-release (RR) of this classic tale by Jules Verne. The film starred Kirk Douglas, James Mason, Paul Lukas, Peter Lorre it was directed Richard Fleischer and was personally produced by Walt Disney! It was the first feature-length Disney film to be distributed by Buena Vista Distribution company and is also considered to be a precursor to the Steampunk genre. The aquanauts beautifully portray Steampunk style artwork. The film does not just sport beautiful posters, but was a real quality film that won itself 2 Academy Awards in 1954.
A wonderful story written by Jules Verne called Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea; this original Quad movie poster features Verne’s imaginative submarine called the Nautilus. What is truly unique about Jules Verne is that his imagination was almost soothsaying in characteristic. He wrote about helicopters, submarines, flying to the moon, etc. and he did all this decades before many of these things were even invented!
This poster for 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea is a spectacular display of imaginative Steampunk artwork. It beautifully displays the key elements from the book and the film and its large size makes it a fantastic centerpiece for any home. If you are a Jules Verne fan, this is simply one of the best pieces of art you can get! A fantastic investment.
This original British quad is in very good condition, but does show some imperfections to note. The majority of the imperfections are along the fold lines and are plainly obvious when you click on the photo of the poster and blow it up. In short, there is fold line separation and wear to both the fold lines and the cross folds. After linen backing this poster would look simply spectacular!
