85 MILLION AMERICANS HOLD WAR BONDS, 1945. Original US WWII Poster (29 x 40” / 95 cm x 131 cm) originally folded and now linen backed. This is a war propaganda poster showing a man clenching war bonds in the air, as the Statue of Liberty mimics this gesture with her lit torch above. War bonds are debt securities issued by the government for the purpose of financing military operations during times of war. Americans were urged to buy war bonds and purchasing these bonds were considered both patriotic and an investment in victory. By the end of WWII, 85 million Americans had invested in war bonds. Original artist is unknown, but these posters were issued by the U.S. Department of the Treasury- War Finance Division.
Originally folded and in excellent condition prior to linen backing.
