TWA ROME, 1960. Original Vintage TWA Airline Travel Poster (25 x 40” / 82 x 131 cm) designed and illustrated by David Klein. This poster is from the many that Klein designed during the 1950’s and 1960’s for Howard Hughes Trans World Airlines (TWA). This poster features one of the famous Swiss Guards that protect the St. Peters Cathedral; and the Colosseum. The guard is in full ceremonial uniform of blue-yellow-red-orange striped pantaloons with a crimson-plumed helmet; this reflects the traditional colors of the Medici family that dates back to the Renaissance. in 1961, this poster won the American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA) poster contest.
This poster is originally rolled and in good C8 condition, but does have some quality remarks: minor paper loss along margin edges, especially on right margin; the corners have wrinkling and normal wear along edges; pin holes in all 4 corners. Please click on image to zoom in and review for yourself. Overall, this poster has beautiful colors and would look absolutely stunning once Linen Backed. This process is available upon request for an additional $80 and would render the above conditional issues nearly invisible.
Condition C8. For Sale $175
