IMITATION OF LIFE, 1959. Original 1 Sheet (27 x 41”) (89 x 135 cms) folded Movie Poster starring Lana Turner, John Gavin, Susan Kohner and Juanita Moore. Directed by Douglas Sirk and produced by Ross Hunter. This romantic drama was Director, Douglas Sirk’s last Hollywood film and touched on issues of race relations, class and gender. It was the second (and more glamorous) film adaptation of the novel of the same by Fannie Hurst. The film was a bit of a comeback for Lana Turner after the very public scandal after her gangster boyfriend, Johnny Stompanato, was allegedly fatally stabbed by Turner’s own daughter.
Juanita Moore, and Susan Kohner each received Academy Award, and Golden Globe nominations for best supporting actress. Kohner took home the Golden Globe, and Douglas Sirk was nominated for the 1959 Directors Guild of America Award. Both film adaptations were selected by the U.S. Library of Congress to be preserved in the National Film Registry.
This folded poster is in very good original C8 condition. The only discernible flaws are the visible fold lines, and some slight creasing near the top and bottom of the poster. Linen Backing is available for an additional $80 upon request or by adding the service to your cart below.
