Original Charles Dickens antique 1 Sheet (27 x 41” / 56 x 71 cm) movie theater poster starring; Robert Newton, Alec Guinness, Kay Walsh, director David Lean, novel by Charles Dickens and screenplay by David Lean. This original black and white film featured in theater s in the early 50s was brilliantly shot. The contrast that was used is matched by few movies made. One reminiscent original movie from the 30s which gave me the same feeling was Doctor X which was shot in 2 strip technicolor. For a visually dramatic movie experience Oliver Twist is certainly that. It is truly fitting that this original antique 1 sheet poster beautifully renders Dickens imaginary character Oliver Twist by melting deep subtle greens blacks and reds. This lithograph will look spectacular after being linen backed and put on anyone’s media room wall. This original movie was released to theaters in the for the first time in 1951, which is why this poster reads a release date of 1951.
The poster is in good condition however it does show some imperfections; the top and bottom cross folds show wear and some separation, there is a tear in the green at the upper left corner and a tear in the black at the upper right corner, overall the poster has a general browned patina which adds to the nice imagery.
