In his search to find his family, he discovered America.” Fievel, a young Russian-Jewish mouse, and his family, the Mousekewitzes, plan to immigrate to America by boat after being terrorized by the tyrannical antisemitic cats in their home country. Fievel is thrown overboard during their long journey, and arrives in America alone, and scared. He must find a way to survive in this new land while not giving up hope that he will be reunited with his family.
An American Tail opened to a range of positive reviews. It ended up being a box office hit, making it one of the highest-grossing animated films of the ’80s, second only to Disney’s The Little Mermaid.
