ANOTHER NEW POPEYE COMEDY, 1934-1939. Original One Sheet (27 x 41”), (89 x 125 cm) originally folded and linen backed. Produced by Fleishcher Studios between 1933 and 1942, the spinach eating Popeye the Sailor quickly became a hit with kids and adults and a competitive force to Disney studios. Amid the grim realities of the Great Depression Popeye and Olive Oyl gave the public some comic relief until the late 50’s when the films and shorts were being produced by Paramount Studios. This poster for does have the Paramount logo as well as the originating studio and was likely made when the independent studio was acquired in 1939. As a stock photo this poster is scarce and few were likely produced as these cartoons were fillers and shorts to back up the main feature.
The linen backing on this poster was done years ago by another studio and the poster has held up well given its age. Some retouching to the cross folds but overall a very presentable poster and ready to frame.
