Original linen backed German A1 (23 x 33”) movie theater poster for sale and starring; Marlon Brando, Robert Duvall, Martin Sheen, Harrison Ford, Laurence Fishburne, Dennis Harper writer John Milius and director Francis Ford Coppola. This award winning film about the horror of the Vietnam war rapidly became a classic and won 2 oscars. This film is considered the best film ever made by John Milius and some of the quotes “I love the smell of Napalm in the morning” resonated as the hippi era was coming to a close. This film ironically embraced war and showed its bloody face to a population of people not yet desensitized. with so many haunting and memorable scenes underscored by a powerful story line and epic dialog; this film is nothing short of a masterpiece.
This poster is one of the rarest and most sought after styles for this film. It was painted by Bob Peak and its dark and menacing imagery is chilling. The original 1 sheets have wonderful imagery also, but this posters rarity and truly wonderful artwork makes it one of the finest specimens to own if you are a collector or fan of the film.
This particular German A1 movie poster released to theaters at the first release in 1979 is in fine, c8 condition. The fold lines show all the wear, which is still clearly visible as no touch-up work was performed following the linen backing. The linen was trimmed right up to the edge of the poster, but the backer did not trim any of the poster itself. We did not linen back this poster and you have the option to have us redo the linen backing and retouch the fold lines by adding the service to your cart below.
