Bride of Frankenstein, 1935. Original French Grande Movie Poster 47” x 63” (119 x 160 cm) for the 1964 French re-release. Starring Boris Karloff, Elsa Lanchester and Colin Clive. Directed by James Whale with characters derived from Mary Shelley’s story this was the sequel to Frankenstein produced 4 years earlier by Universal studios. The early 30’s is widely recognized as being the debut and perhaps the pinnacle of classic horror in cinema with both Dracula and Frankenstein being among the most treasured of the genre. Bride of Frankenstein is considered by many fans to be the most revered of the Horror Genre and with original US posters now easily commanding six figures at auction it’s no wonder that the later re-releases are in such high demand. “The most legendary monster of all time!”
This poster issued to French audiences in 1964 is of course folded and shows extensive age toning together with some evidence of fold line parting beneath Elsa Lanchester’s head. We strongly recommend linen backing this poster and we will bathe the poster to clean up the toning prior to backing.
