POSTES ALPESTRES SUISSE, 1928. Original Linen Backed (25 x 40”), (89 x 125 cm) travel poster which advertises Swiss Alpine Postal Motor Coaches and features an Art Deco style, the undisputed ruler of public life, advertising, and commercial illustration throughout the 1920s and 1930s. This poster commemorates a major turning point in European tourism. In the 1920s, the Swiss Post phased out traditional horse-drawn coaches on treacherous mountain paths, replacing them with open-top motorized coaches capable of handling steep alpine inclines.

Prior to linen backing, this poster had a hole present in the graphic where the “E” in “SUISSES” sits, but has since been patched up and is now in great linen backed condition.
