STAR WARS, Original British Quad Pre Awards Chantrell Style Cinema Poster For Sale

Star Wars British QuadSTAR WARS, Episode IV: 1977. Original folded pre awards “Chantrell style” British Quad (30 x 40″) movie cinema theater poster for sale,  starring; Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Alec Guinness, Peter Cushing, and directed by George Lucas. “A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away…” Wonderful artwork from Greg & Tim Hildebrandt. This poster has two original versions; the “Academy Awards version” (featured FOR SALE on our website HERE) and the pre awards version from 1977, also known as the “Chantrell version” because the artist for both poster versions was Tom William Chantrell. The pre-awards version is worth considerably more because it is even more scarce then the already scarce Awards version.

This particular Star Wars British Quad is in fine condition and shows some imperfections to note. There is minor edge, fold line and cross fold wear. The upper and bottom right corners shows some handling wear as well as the bottom left corner. The creases in this poster are an interesting printing anomaly. Start by analyzing the text at the bottom right corner of the poster where it reads “20th century fox” and notice how there is a pink and a green print of the text. This is evidence the paper was either creased during the printing, or creased prior to the printing and the paper was not replaced with a fresher piece. This print defect can be observed in the obvious vertical creases also on the right hand side of the poster. Our condition grading includes these defects as marks against its condition; however, there are some serious collectors that would call that a interesting piece of provenance and lay value on it.
