TRILBY, An Original Theater Poster presented by A. M. Palmer

Trilby the foyer

TRILBY, 1895. Original Rolled Theater Poster (30″ x 40″,98 cms x 131 cms).  “A. M. Palmer’s Company presents Trilby a stage play advertising Poster. ” A New Play Dramatized by Paul M. Potter from Du Maurier’s Novel by Arrangement with Harper Bros. Printed by the Strobridge Lithographing Company of Cincinnati and New York.

This poster together with the other two posted on this site , we believe, were used for the initial performance of the play at the Park Theater in Boston as it depicts the bearded hypnotist Svengali dead on the table. A subsequent revival of the play some 20 years later did not include this scene.  The play was originally divided into four acts with this poster entitled  “The Foyer of the Cirque des Bashi-Bazoucks – death of Svengali” likely depicting the events of Act 3.

The poster is very fine condition and still contains the remnants of the snipe which can be removed upon request.
