Beauty and the Beast is truly a tale as old as time, based on a French fairy tale published in 1740 by French novelist, Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve. Many versions have been told over the years, and has influences reaching as far back as the 2nd century AD. Disney’s Beauty & the Beast is the third film produced during the Disney Renaissance era. This film tells the story of an arrogant prince cursed to live as a hideous beast as punishment, and Belle, the beautiful young woman he holds captive in hopes of becoming human again. To break the curse, he must not only learn to truly love Belle, but to earn her love in return, before the last petal of an enchanted rose falls.
