Originally rolled and now linen backed French WW1 poster (35 x 49” / 115 x 161 cm) depicting a group of three soldiers in the foreground consisting from left to right, Italian, French and British fighters identifiable by their helmets. The image encourages America to join the fight against the hun as depicted by the soldiers running in the background and clearly identifiable as troops flying the flag of the United States. The artist represents the “Sammies” the familiar term for American soldiers, wearing their characteristic, campaign hats . Below is the name of the bank and the sponsor of the poster while behind the assault a grenade explodes with shrapnel and smoke obscuring the background and even the lettering near the top of the poster. Marianne, the French Reoublic opens her arms and aims her sword onward towards the battle with one hand and holding the wreath of victory in the other.
