STAR WARS, Episode IV: 1977. Original rolled near mint condition 1 Sheet (27 x 41″, 89 x 135 cms) “Style D” AKA “the Circus style” studio release movie poster for sale, starring; Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Alec Guinness, Peter Cushing, and directed by George Lucas. “A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away…” This beautiful artwork by Drew Struzan is reportedly George Lucas’s favorite poster for Star Wars. There are two original theatrical movie posters with this artwork; this Style D version, issued by the (NSS) National Screen Service, and the other issued by the studio. Both versions can be seen below in Figure 1.
Authentication Tips:
There are no known reproductions, but three reprints: 2 for the 15th anniversary and one in 2007. There are however two original Style D 1 sheet Movie posters with the same artwork (Figure 1.). There is the version with the NSS (National Screen Service) information on the bottom margin and there is the 20th century fox studio version released without. The below figure documents the two different versions. The poster for sale in this listing is an original Studio release. The artwork for this poster is an iconic display of mixed medium employing oil paints and airbrush. It is in fact famous for the fact it is George Lucas’s favorite Star Wars movie poster and one of Struzan’s most famous pieces of artwork!
