WWI Propaganda (c.1920) National Loan Poster (30.5 x 47” / 78 x 120 cm).
This gorgeous stone lithographic French poster advertises the French National Loan of 1920 which later became known as the Recovery Loan campaign that was created to encourage the country to pay off their foreign debts after World War I. The poster translates to “Lend to France so it may grow in radiance of Peace.” Illustrated by an unknown French artist, the poster elegantly depicts Marianne, allegory of the French Republic kneeling upon a bayonet marked grave with a symbolic olive branch growing in the background. One of the most evocative French Reconstruction posters designed following the end of WW1.
