A quick recap on the history of the Revenge poster that was recalled and later retitled to Return of the Jedi. There were 6,800 of these posters made with a small minority of this group not having the date and tag info (“Coming May 25, 1983 to your galaxy.”) found in the bottom of this poster. The posters without the tag are considerably more valuable because they are rarer. Legend has it that George Lucas titled this poster “Revenge” because one of his writers, Lawrence Kasdan, said the original title was weak. Deeper anxiety’s about the likelihood of a Jedi seeking revenge must have seemed flawed, thus causing Lucas to issue an executive order to recall the teaser posters prior to being issued to theaters. A large number were burned, but the remaining 6800 posters were made available to enthusiasts for $3.00 through the fan club.
